Toledo-Built 2017 Jeep Wrangler Earns Title of Most American-Made Car

The city of Toledo, Ohio is passionate about the Jeep Wrangler. It's where the original Willys Jeep was manufactured for the war effort during World War II, and the model's descendants have continued to be built there ever since.

This year, the Jeep Wrangler (and its four-door counterpart, the Wrangler Unlimited) earned the number-one spot on the Cars.com American-Made Index (AMI), because 74 percent of its components are domestically sourced, and its Toledo factory supports a large number of workers per sale.

The United Auto Workers union has fought hard to keep the production of the Jeep Wrangler in Toledo, because it does so much to support the community. Even in times of economic recession, sales of the Wrangler have remained steady. Union chairman Mark Epley believes strongly in supporting U.S. manufacturing.

"Buying American products is the biggest thing for me," he says. "I buy Red Wing shoes, and I have to look at my tennis shoes when I buy them because only certain shoes are made in America. You really have to study that. It's very important to buy American-made products."

Fortunately with the capable Jeep Wrangler, the choice is easy.
